Recent Updates: Our 2024 Minnesota Legislative Agenda and more

With the 2024 legislative session officially moving in Minnesota, we’ve been full steam ahead at Gender Justice. Here’s a wrap of everything we’ve been up to, and what’s on the horizon for our work in the fight for gender equity and liberation!

Our 2024 Minnesota Legislative Agenda

Last year, we made massive strides forward in the Minnesota Legislature, and this year, that work continues. At a time when people’s rights nationwide are under attack, our agenda to defend and expand those rights couldn’t be more critical. From the Equal Rights Amendment to insurance coverage for abortion and gender-affirming care, we’ve got some big goals ahead of us. With your help, we’re ready for the work ahead.

SCOTUS: Gender Justice Signs Onto Amicus Brief

On March 26, the Supreme Court of the U.S. will be hearing arguments on the future of access to Mifepristone. Gender Justice has joined with over 237 other reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations in an amicus brief with the Supreme Court to protect access to medication abortion. Numerous others, including state legislators and governors, are joining the call as well.

Pregnancy and Pumping Protections

Gender Justice’s Senior Staff Attorney, Sara Jane Baldwin, wrote an article for the Hennepin County Bar Association, A Closer Look at New Workplace Protections for Pregnant and Pumping Employees in Minnesota. Trans Justice Discussion Event

On Tuesday, February 20 from 6-8 p.m., the Minnesota Humanities Center will host Transgender Justice, the second event in their Refraction: A Gender and Sexuality Discussion Series.

Gender Justice Senior Staff Attorney Brittany Stewart will join Máel Embser-Herbert, professor emeritus, U.S. Army Veteran, and an editor of With Honor and Integrity: Transgender Troops in Their Own Words, to help set the stage on the current landscape of transgender rights and issues nationally, and what is happening specifically within Minnesota.

Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day

UnRestrict Minnesota’s Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day is approaching fast, and we want to see you there! At Lobby Day, you will learn from leaders in Minnesota’s reproductive freedom movement about the historic progress we’ve made and the work that’s ahead, receive training and resources to prepare for meeting with your state legislators, and network with fellow community members. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the day will culminate with a rally in the Capitol rotunda at 2:00 p.m.
