Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment

Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment

In Minnesota, we believe in freedom, fairness, and equality for all. We believe the protections guaranteed by our Constitution and our laws should apply equally to everyone.

Equality for all. No exceptions.

People’s rights and freedoms are under attack, from state legislatures to the Supreme Court. We need to do everything we can to protect our families, our friends, our fellow Minnesotans — and ourselves. We fully support a state Equal Rights Amendment as a crucial step toward achieving that goal.

In 2024, Gender Justice and our partners advocated for the legislature to pass an inclusive Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), featuring some of the strongest protections and language in the nation for gender equity, reproductive freedom, and transgender rights in the country.

While the inclusive Minnesota ERA passed the state House, time ran out and the measure failed to pass the Senate. But the fight isn’t over.

We’re gearing up to pass the ERA through the Minnesota Legislature in 2025 so it appears on the 2026 ballot, and we’ll need all voices to get the job done.
