We are pleased to announce and welcome former Minnesota State Rep. Erin Maye Quade as our new Advocacy Director.
Beginning January 2, 2019. In her new role, Maye Quade will work to advance gender justice through public education, legislative outreach, strategic partnerships and coalition-building.
"Erin is an established leader and outspoken advocate, whose record of fighting for women and LGBTQ Minnesotans dovetails with the mission of Gender Justice," said Executive Director Megan Peterson. "As a legislator, she bravely called out the culture of sexual harassment that had been allowed to fester within in the state house and has been a champion of reproductive and economic justice. We are thrilled to welcome her on board, and know that she will be a fierce advocate for gender equity at the legislature this upcoming session."
Maye Quade displayed her leadership qualities and political acumen throughout her time in the Minnesota State House, as well as her commitment to progressive values. She was an outspoken champion for gender justice, as the primary sponsor of bills banning "conversion therapy" for LGBTQ youth, and eliminating the so-called "gay panic" legal defense. As a result of her hard work, she was the first LGBTQ person - and among the youngest - to be endorsed on the ticket of a major political party in Minnesota. She was also invited to serve on the board of the State Innovation Exchange, a national resource and strategy center that support progressive state legislators across the country.
"I am tremendously excited for this opportunity to advance Gender Justice, the organization and issue," said Maye Quade. "Professionally and personally, I am passionate about fighting for the rights of women and girls, LGBTQ people and our families. I look forward to bringing that passion to my work with Gender Justice, advocates and partners across Minnesota, and doing my part to create a better, more just world for everyone."
