Whew. Does everything going on in the world these days have you looking for new ways to channel your energies for social change? Are you looking to build community while striking down gender barriers in the law and in our culture? Join our board! This is an exciting time to make a difference by helping our small, but high-impact, nonprofit chart the course into its next chapter of growth.

Gender Justice is a 501c3 legal and policy advocacy organization devoted to addressing the causes and consequences of gender inequality. We envision a world without discrimination based on sex, gender, gender expression, or sexual orientation. We work across traditional movement silos like women’s rights, #MeToo, LGBQ rights, rights for transgender and nonbinary people, economic justice, racial justice, reproductive rights and justice, and ending gender-based violence.

Our attorneys represent clients in state and federal legal cases, focusing on communities often left behind by the legal system such as low-income people, immigrants, and people of color. We seek to improve the law through policy advocacy. Our public education and training programs expand people’s knowledge of their rights and understanding of the ways implicit bias leads to systemic discrimination. While our efforts are concentrated within the Upper Midwest, our successes reach beyond regional borders.

The Board of Directors provides fiduciary oversight, mission-based leadership, strategic governance, and advice to the Executive Director who manages day-to-day operations.

Board meetings are held in St. Paul five times a year (February, April, August, October, and November) for two hours. Additionally, there is a Board Orientation in January and a Board and Staff Retreat in June, generally held on a weekend day. Board members from outside the Twin Cities are able to participate by phone or video conference. Three-year terms begin January 1, 2019*. Board members may serve two consecutive terms.

* We are currently undertaking strategic planning and new board members are invited to participate in a board and staff strategic planning retreat in mid-December if they are available.

  • Join us for an Informational Breakfast with current board and staff:

    • Tuesday, October 23rd, 8:30 - 9:30am
      Common Roots Cafe, 2558 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis

  • Complete an application by Tuesday, October 30th

  • New members will be voted in on November 16th and notified shortly after

  • New members' terms begin January 1, 2018
