Are you reeling from the spate of abortion bans passing in states across the country? Still in disbelief that Kavanaugh is now a Supreme Court Justice? Are you furious at the blatant discrimination against queer and trans people – and the politicians desperately trying to make sure that discrimination is legal?
Join the Gender Justice board to build community while striking down gender barriers in the law and in our culture! This is an exciting time to make a difference by helping our small, but high-impact, nonprofit chart the course in its next chapter of growth.
Gender Justice is a 501c3 legal and policy advocacy organization working to advance gender equity through the law. We envision a world where all people can thrive no matter their gender, gender expression, or sexual orientation. We work with and across social change movements like women’s rights, #MeToo, LGBQ rights, rights for transgender and nonbinary people, economic justice, racial justice, reproductive rights and justice, and ending gender-based violence.

Our work is to dismantle the legal, structural, and cultural barriers that contribute to gender-based oppression and to ensure people of all genders a right to bodily autonomy, safety, health, and opportunity. On a day-to-day basis, this means we pursue impact and strategic litigation, advocate for policy changes, provide legal analysis, educate the public about their rights, and build strategic movement partnerships.
The Board of Directors provides fiduciary oversight, mission-based leadership, strategic governance, and advice to the Executive Director who manages day-to-day operations.
Board meetings are held in St. Paul five times a year (February, April, August, October, and December) for two hours. Additionally, there is a Board Orientation in January and a Board and Staff Retreat in June. Board members from outside the Twin Cities are able to participate by phone or video conference and travel stipends are available to attend the orientation and retreat in person. Three-year terms begin January 1, 2020. Board members may serve two consecutive terms.
Time commitment is roughly 5 hours/month.
