Gender Justice is proud to partner with NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, Planned Parenthood, and Pro-Choice Resources in advocating for common-sense abortion access legislation in Minnesota and nationally.
Two great bills have been introduced in Minnesota this legislative session, one that would guarantee access to contraception, and another that would preserve the integrity of the physician-patient relationship.
A press conference announcing introduction of the bills is available here. The Minnesota Senate Media Services effectively summarizes the legislation as follows:
"The Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, authored by Representative Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) and Senator Sandra Pappas (DFL-St. Paul), would assure that women have access to contraceptive coverage from any insurance company that covers prescription drugs, without cost-sharing or deductibles.
"The Physician Integrity Act, authored by Representative Laurie Halverson (DFL-Eagan) and Senator Matt Klein (DFL-Mendota Heights), would authorize health care providers to provide information to patients that is medically accurate, evidence based, and appropriate for the patient. According to Representative Halverson, current law requires that certain information, including medically inaccurate information, be given to a woman seeking an abortion. She said this measure 'asserts the rights of physicians to provide science-based health care.'"
