Following U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s introduction of a transphobic bill that would ban trans women from competing in women’s sports, Executive Director Megan Peterson issued the following statement:

“Gender Justice works every day to create a world where everyone, of every gender identity, can thrive. We do this by combatting outdated notions of gender and combatting transphobia in law and policy. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s bill is a shameful attempt to codify transphobia into law. Trans women belong in women’s sports – full stop. Women’s sports are stronger when we value inclusion and equity over division and hate.

We won’t stop fighting for trans athletes – whether that means fighting against this bill, suing USA Powerlifting on behalf of our client, Jaycee Cooper, or standing in solidarity with trans athletes facing discrimination across the country.”

Gender Justice is a legal nonprofit seeking to advance gender equity through the law using impact litigation, policy advocacy, and community engagement.
