Saint Paul, Minn.—

Megan Peterson, Executive Director of Gender Justice, made the following statement following Erin Maye Quade’s election to the Minnesota Senate.

“On behalf of the entire team at Gender Justice, I send my warmest congratulations to Erin Maye Quade and her campaign on her election to the Minnesota State Senate.

Erin is a creative, passionate, and tireless leader for reproductive freedom and gender equity. The people in her district and all of us across the state are lucky to have her leadership and representation in the Senate. As the first Black LGBTQ woman elected to the state Senate, she has made history tonight and led the way for increasing much-needed representation in our state legislature.

Erin has led crucial work building coalitions and advocating at the Capitol for Gender Justice and UnRestrict Minnesota in her role as Advocacy Director. As she takes public office, her portfolio will shift to public education and relationship building with allied partners in other states. Her candidacy for State Senate was run independently from her position at Gender Justice, and her new role in the Senate will continue to be separate from her work here.

Congratulations, Senator-Elect Erin Maye Quade!”
