Job Opportunities
We’re a small but mighty organization looking for the newest members of our ambitious, highly effective, and growing team.
North Dakota Summer/Fall Organizer
Last year, Gender Justice filed a lawsuit against the state of North Dakota on behalf of three families and a medical provider seeking to restore gender affirming health care for minors in the state. We also joined the lawsuit to strike down the state’s abortion ban. In the legislature, we advocated for the rights of North Dakotans to live free from gender-based discrimination. But as attacks escalate on our basic rights and freedoms, we know that the law alone will not be enough to make North Dakota a state where everyone is treated equally regardless of their gender identity or expression. Gender Justice is seeking two part time organizers in North Dakota to show up in community to share vital know your rights resources with LGBTQ+ youth and their families, grow our supporter base in the state, and have conversations with North Dakotans that increase support and empathy for transgender people in the state.
Internships & Fellowships
Gender Justice is committed to mentoring the next generation of advocates for gender equity. We welcome inquiries from college students studying law, public policy, gender theory, nonprofit administration, and related fields. We offer compelling learning experiences for undergraduate, graduate, and law students, new lawyers, and paralegals.
Interns at Gender Justice are on a seasonal cohort schedule: Spring, Summer, and Fall/Winter interns. These seasons have been set to largely align with school schedules and provide a cohort-type learning experience, though exceptions can be made upon request.
The schedule is as follows:
- Spring internships run roughly from January through April;
- Summer internships run roughly from May through August;
- Fall internships run roughly from September through December.
Legal Internships
With growing attacks on gender equity, reproductive freedom, and LGBTQ+ rights, now is a crucial time to join the fight. During your internship, you’ll assist with ongoing Gender Justice cases. You will also assist with and learn about the legislative and policy advocacy, administrative advocacy, public education, organizing, outreach, and coalition work that accompanies our litigation.
We provide legal internships to current law students. We are currently accepting applications for Fall internships.
Development Internships
With growing attacks on reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ equity, we’re looking to increase our development capacity so we can expand our work. During your internship, you’ll learn about fundraising, non-profit administration, communications, database management, and planning events.
We welcome applications from anyone based in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota interested in learning about non-profits and gender equity. Internships last one semester (or one summer) and include a stipend.
We are not currently accepting development internship applications.
Advocacy and Engagement Internships
Our advocacy work focuses on advancing political and organizing goals for our organization and base of supporters. During an advocacy internship, you’ll learn about legislative and policy advocacy, administrative advocacy, public education, organizing, outreach, and coalition work.
We are full for the Fall but please check back for Spring internships.
Fellowships
We sponsor fellows who receive funding through a variety of programs, including but not limited to the Robina Foundation, Skadden Foundation, University of Minnesota Human Rights Center, Minnesota Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Stanford Public Interest Center, Equal Justice Works, New Sector Alliance, and fellowships sponsored by law schools around the country.
If you are interested in a Gender Justice sponsorship for a one or two-year legal fellowship, send an inquiry to [email protected].
Gender Justice seeks to provide student development and leadership opportunities that reflect our values of equity and inclusion with regard to race, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, physical ability, age, gender, and sexual orientation. We are committed to fostering the leadership of women, people of color, Native and indigenous people, LGBQ and trans people, immigrants, and others living in marginalized communities.

Milestones of Progress
Our organization has celebrated some big wins over the years and we continue to grow in the ways we harness strategic impact litigation, legislative advocacy, and education to push the law forward when it comes to gender equality. Check out what we’ve accomplished, together.
