Celebrating new representation and the work ahead

November 11, 2022

Dear Friend,

Representation matters. Leigh Finke made history as the first transgender legislator elected to the MN House. In Minnesota, 11 out LGBTQ+ candidates won their elections on Tuesday night, including Alicia Kozlowski of Duluth who is the first non-binary person elected to the capitol.

We celebrate these big wins in representation along with the first pro-reproductive freedom trifecta in our state government. The stage is set for us to make real change in reproductive rights and gender equity in the months ahead, and we can’t wait to get started.

Webinar on Religion and Civil Rights

On December 1st, join us for a presentation on how religion is being used to expand and limit civil rights. This conversation is open to everyone, and if you are a lawyer, you can receive one Standard CLE credit.

Gender Justice Legal Director Jess Braverman and Advocacy Director Erin Maye Quade will cover recent developments in how religion is being used in legal work, state legislatures, and by advocates to expand and restrict civil rights in 2022.

Give to the Max Day is Almost Here!

Give to the Max Day is next week and early giving has started! Your gift will help us win in court to make sure you can get your contraception prescription filled without delay. Your gift will help educate Minnesotans about the harms of anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers. And your gift will help us keep fighting until every trans kid can thrive in school.

We have a goal of raising $30,000 for Give to the Max Day to make this work possible. An anonymous donor has already agree to donate $2,500 if supporters like you give $27,500!

Congratulations, Senator-Elect Erin Maye Quade!

Part of our celebrations this week included the election of Gender Justice Advocacy Director Erin Maye Quade to the Minnesota Senate!

Erin is a creative, passionate, and tireless leader for reproductive freedom and gender equity. As the first Black LGBTQ+ woman elected to the state Senate, she has made history and led the way for increasing much-needed representation in our state legislature.

Erin has led crucial work building coalitions and advocating at the Capitol in her role as Advocacy Director. As she takes public office, her portfolio will shift to public education and relationship building with allied partners in other states. Congratulations, Erin!
