Earlier today, the Supreme Court lifted the injunction against the Trump administration’s ban on transgender people serving in the military, allowing the ban to be enforced while legal challenges continue.

The following statement is from Gender Justice Executive Director Megan Peterson:

“This ban is only the latest attempt by the Trump administration to dehumanize and discriminate against transgender people – this time by targeting members of our military. Even in the face of this administration’s cruelty and contempt, transgender people enlist at far higher rates than the general population, and serve honorably in every branch of the armed services. As many as 15,000 service members could be affected by the transgender ban, causing unnecessary harm and disruption throughout the ranks. Rejecting these brave, qualified people from military service is not only lousy policy, it is unconstitutional.”
