Minnesota has long prided itself on upholding robust protections for both religious freedom and anti-discrimination. But a dangerous shift is taking place in our state and across the country: personal religious beliefs are being systematically weaponized to achieve political dominance and dismantle our civil rights. And under the banner of white Christian nationalism, extremists are targeting LGBTQ+ people, women, people of color, and non-Christian community members.
As Gender Justice Senior Advisor Erin Maye Quade puts it, “Minnesota is proof positive that a diverse, multicultural, multifaith state is more successful. And so any attempts to undo that, to chip away at that, to chip away at any of our protections, we all lose.”
